Spring And Summer Update

Hello, friends and family! It’s us again, the Hortons. You may have forgotten who we are because it’s been so long since we sent an update. But here we are, gracing your inbox once again (finally!). Honestly, a lot of times we feel like we don’t have a lot to say besides, “we are still in the waiting process”, so we don’t send anything. But if you ever have any questions or wonder how things are going, feel free to reach out to us. We are just an email or text away! (Side note: please make sure you add updates@hortonfamilylegacy.com to your contact list so that we don’t end up in your junk mail).

Recent Months
We have been spending the past couple of months praying and continuing to do things that need to be done to travel well and safely. We have switched Excursions, for one thing. A Ford Excursion is the only vehicle that can tow as large of a trailer as we have, and still safely fit our 6-person family. We sold our gasoline Excursion, and now we have a diesel! (If you listen carefully, you can probably hear us driving right now!) It gives us better towing power and gas mileage. Unfortunately, Ford stopped making them in 2005, so Excursions require updates and a good deal of maintenance. Adam added air lifts to it, which makes a big difference in towing safely. He also added a backup camera, upgraded the brake pads, updated the shocks, added a sway bar (for towing), and a brake controller system (and that still isn’t everything). He was even kind enough to add a DVD player for the kids. 😆 We are blessed that he is so skilled! We also scoured Marketplace and acquired bikes for everyone, so now we can ride bikes as a family (with a bike trailer for Bethany and Joel to ride in). The kids are really excited about that!

Update on Ministry/Missions
In our last email, we asked for prayers as we tried to discern what our mission ministry would look like moving forward. There are a great deal of small churches out there who struggle with growing in this modern, technological age.  They need website updates, equipment upgrades; you name it. Adam started The Light Media Group last summer with the intention of helping them leverage technology so they can more easily minister to their communities, even if they can’t afford to hire help. At the time, it was a business for him because we didn’t have an income otherwise. We have been praying about this the past few months, and The Light Media will now be our primary ministry focus! The Lord has blessed Adam with part time work, which will allow him to earn enough of a living, while offering free labor to these churches! They will still need to purchase any necessary licenses and/or equipment – hopefully we can help more with these costs in the future. Because his paid work is part time, it allows him to serve churches with that extra time. God is so, so good and faithful!Making this our ministry focus will also allow Rachel and the kids to be more involved than they have been. We will still be volunteers with Eight Days of Hope, and we want to be able to help with as many projects as we can. But for right now, we feel like the Lord wants us to focus on serving with The Light Media.

Our Next Couple of Months
The past year has been a total whirlwind for our family. There have been so many changes, and our kids especially have been through a lot. As we’ve been praying as to what our ministry was going to look like moving forward, Adam and I have been also wanting to really focus on pouring into the kids and taking advantage of this mobile lifestyle. So, we’ve got some great adventures planned for the first part of summer! We are headed this weekend to the Grand Canyon, and then to Zion National Park, Arches National Park, Lake Tahoe (we are serving a church near there), up to Glacier National Park in Northern Montana, and Mount Rushmore. We are very excited! And nervous. But, mostly excited! We can’t wait to show the kids more of God’s awesome creation.

Social Media
We have not been posting on social media the past several months. Back in January, we deleted Facebook (but then had to create an account in order to use marketplace to sell/buy our Excursions, get bikes, etc; so if you’ve seen an account with our name, that’s why). We do want to be able to share pictures of our adventures and travels, but we also don’t want to be putting a lot of pictures of our kids out there. A few years ago, someone used pictures of our kids on a fake Facebook account. It was eye-opening and scary. Since then, we’ve tried to be very careful about how and where we post photos and information. After praying about it, we made an Instagram account that will be private. It is called Hortonfamilylegacy. If you are on Instagram, feel free to click the link and request to follow! Rachel also has a MeWe account that she will start updating; just search for Rachel Horton. We will post more frequent short updates and pictures of our adventures and ministry on these accounts. I’m sure we’ll have lots of awesome photos of these beautiful places to share!

Our Needs

• Be praying for our safety (and our sanity!) as we travel. •The first church we will be serving is in Western Nevada, where we’ll be near Lake Tahoe. Please be praying as Adam assesses their needs. He will be helping with their livestream, music, and audio.

•Pray that God will lead us to more churches as we travel that we can serve. We’ve never started a ministry from scratch before, so we are trusting the Lord to lead us to where He wants us to go. •We are thankful Adam will be able to offer free labor to these churches. We still
appreciate donations to help with any other ministry or travel expenses that may come up. God has been so, so faithful and we know He will continue to provide what is needed.

We continually thank the Lord for you!

As always, we are so thankful and encouraged by the prayers and support we receive from all of you. We are so blessed by our strong support system. Please feel to reach out to us if you have questions or just want to check in.

In Christ’s love,
Adam & Rachel
Now all glory to God, who is able, through His mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. Glory to Him in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations forever and ever! Amen. Ephesians 3: 20-21
